From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths—until the day June’s brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family’s survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias’s death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets. Full of nonstop action, suspense, and romance, this novel is sure to move readers as much as it thrills. (Goodreads summary)
The best way for me to describe Legend is intriguing. The mystery, action, characters, romance…everything about it was extremely well done. Legend holds its own in a literary genre that can sometimes feel overdone and cliché. It’s uniqueness and believability makes it stand out as something truly wonderful.
The plot development is paced beautifully to keep the reader entranced, never dull or boring and never rushed either. Marie Lu is an extremely gifted writer who excels especially at action sequences and exquisite, precise descriptions. Her prose is not flowery and overdone but simple and packed with life. Each scene is gripping, each character life-like and fully developed.
I loved the vascilating points of view of Day and June. Each voice is necessary to see a full view of the world. Day is fantastic. Adored him and his confident, vulnerability. He is aloof and stoic on the outside, yet feels deeply on the inside. June is tough and strong and ridiculously smart, yet fragile and trusting and also a bit stupid at times as far as common sense goes. I adored both of them.
Lu does a fantastic job building her world qradually and fully, making the reader unaware that there is even world-building going on. It’s gorgeous.
Also a great asset to this story is the romance. The characters are 15. They are young and new to love. Lu does an excellent job capturing that. It’s a sweet romance, an innocent one which makes it all the more beautiful.
Overall, Legend is a fast-paced, unique world that I thoroughly enjoyed diving into. I look forward to reading the next installment, Prodigy, and anything else Marie Lu decides to gift the world with in the future!

Happy Reading!
Yep, I wholeheartedly agree! this was a great Dystopian novel, I loved that she captured the innocence of June when it comes to love but still manages to create such a kick ass heroine!
Exactly! I felt like June was so complex and Marie Lu did such a great job of showing that.
I want to read this! Thanks for the quickie review.
glad you liked it! Thanks for reading! =)
This one sounds great. I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for it!
yay! thanks for reading!
Glad you liked it I enjoyed this book too ! I was surprised how much I liked the switching POVs !
Yes, sometimes swapping POV’s can really NOT work, but this was an example of when it worked out perfectly!
Can’t wait for this one! Great review!!
Thanks for reading! Hope you love it!
I just loved ‘legend’… especially the idea with the two POVs… very cool and kind of addictive ^^

Hi Kat! Thanks for commenting! I’m so looking forward to Prodigy as well! =)
This book sounds awesome! Definitely getting it soon
It is really good! Hope you love it!
I love dystopians where the romance is just as pertinent as the plot and world – it gives us a reason to care for the characters. Love being able to read from 2 POVs as well – and when the writing isn’t overly flowery it’s a better match to YA voice.
Absolutely agree, Christina. So looking forward to seeing what happens next!
Legend is definitely on my to-read list. It’s exactly the type of book I look around for~ I love dual pov and fantastic world-building~<3 I really love reading your reviews! I'm often scared to read reviews because I fear they'll contain spoilers without warning and I'm so glad to see a lack of that on this site. You girls rock!
*blushes* You are too sweet! Yes, Dani and I try very hard not to spoil stories for people. It’s just not cool. If there ever is a spoiler you’ll see a big disclaimer at the beginning because we would hate to ruin a book for someone accidentally! Thanks so much for commenting and browsing our blog. We love doing this and appreciate our reader so much!
I enjoyed Legend and I’m looking forward to the next book!
YAY! So excited for Prodigy! There was an excerpt of it on Barnes and Noble’s website a little while ago and it really made me anxious for the next book!
Thank you so much for the review because the cover would have definently been a reason I didn’t pick up the book!
=) Yes, it’s hard not to judge books by their covers isn’t it? Sigh, I do it all the time!
Another great review, Heather, as usual. I loved Legend. It was extremely unique to me at the time. I had never read anything quite like it, so I didn’t know what to expect. I loved it from the get go. I think I finished it in about 2 1/2 hours because I just could not put down. I am so excited for Prodigy. I hope it is just as awesome, if not even more so!
*blushes* You are too sweet! Thank you so much for that. I enjoy writing them! I’m super excited for Prodigy as well! I want to see more Day and June and I love the political angle. It’s so promising for an awesome story!
Aww. I didn’t mean to make ya blush.
I will be keeping my eye out for your review of Prodigy!
