Welcome to DAY ONE of
Today I have the pleasure of welcoming the wonderful Leanna Renee Hieber and her Magic Most Foul series to the blog. Darker Still, the first book in the series released last November with Sourcebooks Fire and follows young Natalie Stewart as she discovers she has a strange connection to the enchanted portrait of a handsome young man. Channeling Doyle, Wilde and Austen, Hieber creates a fantastic Victorian-era world full of intrigue, danger, romance, murder and magic.
The second book, The Twisted Tragedy of Miss Natalie Stewart is due out this coming November, and we can’t wait to get our grabby little hands on a finished copy of this book. Four months is a long ways away, huh? However Leanna and Sourcebooks Fire have graciously agreed to let us post a teaser of Twisted Tragedy just for the blogoversary. Aren’t they just fabulous?! <cue standing ovation> And not only that, but Leanna herself is performing the excerpt!
So, please, sit back and enjoy a bit of The Twisted Tragedy of Miss Natalie Stewart…

If I were trapped in a painting, I think I would miss technology the most. Because then I couldn’t read books or listen to music and watching movies would be out of the question…it would be kind of sad.
So many things really. Fast food and my computer/tablet the most. I love being able to read just about any book or get any information with my computer. I’d really miss those. The author said she is an actress, and I could tell by the way she read her excerpt. I really want to read these books now!
I’d miss chocolate the most, then books. Hopefully, the painting would be in a museum so that I could watch and hear the people going by.

I would miss not being able travel anywhere I want cause I’m stuck in a painting
I’d miss being able to change my clothes. It sounds superficial, but if I were trapped in a painting I assume I’d look the same all the time- same clothes, same hair, etc. I’d get very bored, very quickly, with that sort of repetition.
Chocolate. Because who knows if there is chocolate in these magical painted lands? And that would be quite unfortunate.
I would definitely miss the beach and being able to read!
I would miss my warm shower in the morning. It is like my coffee. I would also miss my two cats.
I would miss the ability to travel to other places besides the world in the painting.
