The most tragic love story in history . . .
Juliet Capulet didn’t take her own life. She was murdered by the person she trusted most, her new husband, Romeo Montague, a sacrifice made to ensure his own immortality. But what Romeo didn’t anticipate was that Juliet would be granted eternity, as well, and would become an agent for the Ambassadors of Light.
For 700 years, she’s fought Romeo for the souls of true lovers, struggling to preserve romantic love and the lives of the innocent. Until the day she meets someone she’s forbidden to love, and Romeo, oh Romeo, will do everything in his power to destroy that love.
“These violent delights have violent ends
And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,
Which as they kiss consume.”
—Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
Stacey Jay has created a beautiful story and world in Juliet Immortal. I really enjoyed diving into this novel. The characters are beautifully crafted and the back story is intricately woven and revealed at just the right pacing to keep the story moving and the reader engaged.
Jay puts a paranormal twist on this classic tale and really bends the imagination in new ways. The characters and world are well built and the plot is tight and well-crafted. The thing that struct me the most was the growth of Juliet’s character. The things she discovers about life and love in the story are well done.
The only thing I didn’t like was the element of insta-love, however, it is sort of part of the story (I won’t reveal too much) so I can’t really begrudge it too much. =) There was a little bit of cheesirificness and the ending was a little convenient. But overall, it definitely has a solid 4 stars in my mind and I will look forward to the next part of this beautiful series. =)

Happy Reading!
Oh wow! I’ve never read this before, but thanks god that you reviewed it! I really want to read it now! Sounds amazing, and unique! 😀 Thanks for the review Heather!
Very unique for sure. =) Glad you liked the review!
This book looks really good!! I like the idea of a classic tale with a paranormal twist!
That’s exactly what drew me to it!
I read this at the beginning of the year and finally wrote my review… I really really enjoyed the beginning (even the insta love), but then…it ended. I felt a bit lost and it was very convenient, so I gave the book 3 stars. But I did enjoy it and am looking forward to “Romeo Redeemed”! Great review! 😀
Sierra @ Yearning to Read
Sierra, yes, I was a bit at a loss for how to rate this one. Part of me loved it and part of me was like, wait…huh? So yes, I am really looking forward to Romeo Redeemed. Romeo intrigued me so I’m curious to see what Jay does with him. =)
I’m so looking forward to this one! I bought it a couple week ago, and now, after the review, I really can’t wait for it.
Thanks for sharing!
Ron, have you had a chance to read this yet? I’d love to hear what you think!
It sounds good. Is it just me or do a lot of books have an instant love story going on? I dont ever buy that either. Thanks for the amazing review!
Thanks for commenting, Linda! Yes, way too many stories have insta-love. It’s one thing to have an instant attraction…to be instantly drawn to someone…or even to be relatively instantly “in like” but instantly in-love and ready to die for someone else…hmmmm…that takes time. Sigh.
I LOVE Shakespeare retellings, especially when they’re given a completely new twist. Sounds really good!
Have you read Rebecca Serle’s When You Were Mine? That’s a Romeo and Juliet retelling from Rosaline’s POV and Juliet is awful!!
Ooo…I haven’t heard of that one. Sounds awesome!!
I read this review and found it interesting so I went out and got the book. Loved it! Can’t wait for Romeo Redeemed!
Wow, I’m honored that I helped you make this discovery! =) Glad you enjoyed it! Looking forward to Romeo Redeemed myself! He was actually one of my favorite characters in the book. 😉
I have been wondering about this book. Sometimes I can be really wary of books that use known characters, but I am thinking of giving it a try. The cover is beautiful and eye catching and it sounds interesting, just worried about the characters being ruined for me. Great review!
Let me know what you think if you give them a try! I’m not a huge fan of Romeo and Juliet so they weren’t ruined for me…but even if I was I don’t think they would be.
Okay~ I’ve read the summary for this book before and I thought “What is this I don’t even…” being such a big fan of Romeo & Juliet I was really scared to pick it up. But since you gave it such a good rating I’m a bit curious now… Perhaps I’ll re-think checking this out and peek at the first few pages to see if it’s something I could get into.
Thank you for the review!
I hope you’ll give it a shot! I am not a huge fan of Romeo and Juliet so the new idea sort of intrigued me. I think you’ll enjoy the resolution. 😉
I agree with you about the paranormal twist! It was quite smart and was beautifully done. I also agree with the insta love, that irritated me as much as the whole fact that Juliet practically stole someone’s body!!! I wish I’d read your review before I read the book!
Yes, it was a little…different with the whole body snatching thing, lol! =) Thanks for stopping by!
gorgeous cover plus a retelling of shakespeares ‘romeo and juliet’ … can i really ask for more??? definetely on my TBR-pile.
Thanks for the great review.
greets
Kat
Yay! Thanks for commenting!
The ending made my head spin. Not in a great way. I enjoyed the story for the most part, up til then. I will most likely read Romeo Redeemed, because I kinda have to. Other than that, all I have left to say is I loved, loved, loved the sweet and to the point review! Thanks so much!
Yay! Yeah, the ending was…meh. Thanks for commenting. =)
I started it for the cover and the idea of the book, but in the end I couldn’t finish it. It seemed to me that Juliet was having a “bad decisions”-month… or more. I really like your review though
Yes, it definitely took a while to get into for sure. I’m glad I finished it but it wasn’t a favorite. I’m actually more interested in reading Romeo Redeemed because he was one of the more intriguing characters. =) Thanks for commenting!
I love that the author created a twist on the Romeo/Juliet story. I’ve seen this book around and been wanting to read it, glad you enjoyed it.
Yay! Hope you love it too!
