It’s one thing to find out you’re a vampire princess. It’s a whole other thing to actually rule. Newly married Jessica Packwood is having a hard enough time feeling regal with her husband, Lucius, at her side. But when evidence in the murder of a powerful elder points to Lucius, sending him into solitary confinement, Jessica is suddenly on her own. Determined to clear her husband’s name, Jessica launches into a full-scale investigation, but hallucinations and nightmares of betrayal keep getting in her way. Jessica knows that with no blood to drink, Lucius’s time is running out. Can she figure out who the real killer is—and whom she can trust—before it’s too late? (Goodreads summary)
I’m going to go out on a limb and just say that I adore a novel when I want to SHAKE THE HECK out of the characters. If I have to put my Kindle down so as not to harm it in my ranting or place the book gently on my nightstand so that I do not break the binding when I throw it against a wall, that’s actually a very good sign. =)
I loved this book (obviously since I gave it a 5 star rating), because it gave me just such a thrill. =) Jessica is suddenly thrust into a royal position after living a life of average American teenagerdom. While Lucius was raised for this, Jessica was not, and so she is understandably out of her comfort-zone. Where we saw a confident, self-assured Jessica in Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side, we see a fragile, self-conscious and sometimes annoyingly insecure Jessica in Jessica Rules the Dark Side. I went through this book wanting to scream, “JESSICA!!!! GET OVER YOURSELF AND SAVE YOUR FREAKIN’ HUSBAND BEFORE I DO IT FOR YOU!!!”
But that’s part of the beauty of good writing. It makes you want to scream, cry, laugh, love, blush, etc. It evokes emotion, real ones. And that, my friends, is why I read. Now, I do not like to be left in my frustrated condition, I want some resolution, so never fear…Fantaskey does a great job wrapping everything up.
I have to say the addition of Mindy and Raneiro’s story is absolutely awesome. I adore them and hope that we will see more of their story, eventually.
All in all, a wonderfully awesome story!

*Hangs head in shame* because I can’t believe I haven’t read this book yet, lol. I loved Lucius so much in the 1st book and I really need to read this book soon. Great review
Yes, Jennifer…go read! =) Thanks!
I just read Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side last week. You make me want to go and grab this book RIGHT NOW. I felt the same in the first book. I wanted to scream and yell or punch Jessica but needed to find out what happened next.
Thanks! Yes you definitely should run and get the second book! :). Such fun turmoil! 😉
