Welcome to the YA Indie Carnival,
ladies & gents!
This week’s topic is…
Some like it hot
So, this week we’re supposed to post a steamy excerpt. Rather than mooch a moment from a fellow carnie, I thought to myself…
“Hey Self, what about writing something of our own?”
“Are you crazy nutso? Can we say awkward and light years out of our comfort zone??”
“Come on, Self…”
“Well, sure. If you’re bent on embarrassing yourself with your weird, angsty, romantic drivel, I guess we can post something.”
“Thanks Self, for that incredibly reassuring vote of confidence.”
“Hey, crash and burn, baby. Crash and burn.”
And so challenged, I glared at myself — a feat which is nearly if not utterly impossible — and decided I would in fact give this story writing thing a try, embarrassing or not.
So here you have it. My “weird, angsty, romantic drivel”…
* Many thanks to my ever-fabulous sister Lauri, the ever-wise Heather Self, and the ever- groovy Fisher Amelie for taking the time to read through this for me and for all their thoughts and tips.
So it’s rough. Really rough, but I ran out of time to really finesse it and fix all it’s weak points. And it’s not really steamy…. more emotionally intense, maybe? Anywho. I had a lot of fun with it, and you can check out more pre-Valentine’s Day romanticalness (That should totally be a word right? No? <sigh>) by visiting the carnies listed below….

Thanks so much Fisher for reading through it, and for all your encouragement! We shall see if Nick & Grace’s story ever amounts to anything more than this. Writing a whole book is definitely an intimidating, yet exciting, challenge. 😛
