There are times when Heather & I finish a book, but don’t have time to write a full, comprehensive review… or even a shorter “flashbulb” review. BUT we still want to share our thoughts with you on what we’ve been reading. That’s why every Saturday we’ll be featuring 2 “snippet” reviews — short, sweet, to-the-point reviews that we’ll try to keep to 2-7 sentences. So we hope you enjoy these!!

Blurb: This prequel introduces the court of Thorvaldor, Nalia, its princess, who has reached the magical age of sixteen, and her best friend, Kiernan, the earl’s son… Read more
A cute, short story from Kiernan’s POV that takes place about a year before the events of The False Princess. While this story is not necessary to understanding the larger narrative of The False Princess, it does provide further character building/back story for both Kiernan and Nalia, as well as the chance to observe Kiernan’s perspective on the nature of their friendship/relationship. If you enjoyed the novel, or if you are new to O’Neal’s book and are wanting to get a small overview of the characters and relationships featured in The False Princess, I’d recommend picking up A Royal Birthday.

Disclaimer: As a review of a second book in a series, this could be a bit spoilery. Proceed with caution!
Where do I start with this terrific tale? Well, let’s start where it all began, in The Beautiful and the Cursed. I really loved this world, its characters, and the whole mythology of these incredible creatures. I had a couple gripes with it, but most of them were dealt with rather effectively in this second book. Most notably, everyone is not so “drop-dead gorgeous” in this book and that made me very happy. 😉
The plot twists in directions I was not expecting, which in my opinion is always a good thing. I like to be surprised once in a while. Let’s just say, things get much more complicated in this book. Just when I think I’ve figured everything out, the plot turns. I also adored the growth I got to see in Ingrid, Grayson, and Gabby. I also liked that Vander…well, I can’t tell you that. 😉
Overall, The Lovely and the Lost was thrilling, surprising, and deliciously unputdownable. I’m very much looking forward to The Wondrous and the Wicked.
