I actually don’t read a lot of scary stories unless there is romance. I’m branching out and have picked up my love of reading again! The Between books from April T. were really good, The Retribution of MD coming out in November seems really creepy, and Anna Dressed in Blood was pretty good!

Stephen King’s books are so creepy most of the time!!! The Shining really gave me a scare!!!
The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe.
I’d have to say 172 Hours on the Moon by Johan Harstad, that story was pretty dang creepy!

I think all of Poe’s work are great scary stories to tell.
Only scary books I read are Stephen King books and I don’t really have a favorite.
My favorite is “It” by Stephen King
I love The Shining by Stephen King.

I’ve got several favorites, – The Haunting of Hill House & We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson are both excellent

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
The Highwayman. I had a social studies teacher back in 6th grade who *loved* that poem, and he’d recite it in class. It takes on such an eerie quality when someone’s reading it aloud with the right emphases as the story progresses.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow…. lol, course I have the headless horseman taped so that might be why it came to mind so quick!
At the moment it is Curse of the Wendigo by Rick Yancey!

It’s difficult to say between The Tell-Tale Heart (I love most of Poe’s work) and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
The Monkey’s Paw is hard to beat for a chill up the spine.
