It seems that lately I’ve been reading a lot of “final books” in series. I’m not sure why. I feel like I’m tying up loose ends or something. Sometimes they disappoint me, sometimes they rock my socks off, sometimes they are sort of meh. Horde was of the “rock my socks off” variety. I loved the places Ann Aguirre took this world, characters, etc. There has always been a lot of depth and complexity and unanswered questions in the series, but this book pushes the reader even further into the world of Razorland. And yes, all your questions will be answered! =)
The action was incredible. It was gruesome and realistic but also heartwrenching. It’s all out war by the end, and you feel every battle, ever loss deeply.
The monsters are even more horrifying and…well, monstrous. Everything in this world feels raw and open like the festering wound that it is. You hope and pray throughout the whole book that Deuce can bring some form of healing and restore the world to some semblance of wholeness.
The romance was one of the sweetest stories I’ve read in so long. Every moment is so hard won and beautifully written, the reader cannot help but be swept away with it.
I adored the new characters and the complexity they added to the story. Morrow was probably my favorite. Honestly, I’m hoping that perhaps one day we’ll get more of his story.
Overall, this series is one I would definitely recommend even for non-zombie lovers. This is an epic adventure made of all sorts of awesome.
