When the League gets word that Blackflame intends to detain—and execute—a leading political family, Hitomi volunteers to help the family escape. But there are more secrets at play than Hitomi’s, and much worse fates than execution. When Hitomi finds herself captured along with her charges, it will take everything she can summon to escape with her life. (Goodreads summary)
Wow! Just Wow! I am in love with this series. There are so many things I could say about it. I’m not one to fall in love with novellas usually. It takes a lot for me to give something this short 5 stars. I mean, it’s just not usually enough time for me to truly and completely love it, but Sunbolt is one of the few exceptions. Intisar Khanani is an absolutely fantastic world-builder. It is exquisite. The imagery, the intricacy, the beauty, and the horrendous are all seamlessly woven throughout a story that sucks you in and leaves you breathless for more. The characters are also rich and fully developed and participate in a deep and almost tangible conflict. The sacrificial heroism and questions of morality add a beautiful element of complexity that round out the satisfying, utter perfection that is this snippet of a tale.
Overall, I highly recommend Sunbolt. It is flawlessly captivating and full of adventure. I cannot wait for more!
– Necessary? Yep. Everyone should read it. =) But in all seriousness, this is the first in a novella series so yes it is necessary for the series as a whole.
– POV? Hitomi (the main character)
– Where does it fit? It’s the beginning of the series
– Prior Knowledge needed? Nope
