Read this week:
And because I had a lot of Photoshoppy stuff to do, I listened to a bunch of Doctor Who…
The Bitter Kingdom – Epically epic epicness of EPIC proportions. REVIEW
Doctor Who: Series II, Vol. 1 – What can I say? Comics + Doctor Who = fun. And it had a three issue arc dealing with Jack the Ripper. I had to read it.
A Dawn Most Wicked – Great back story for Daniel Sheridan and the Spirit Hunters. REVIEW
Doctor Who: The Runaway Train – Eh. Not one of the better books I’ve listened to. The author didn’t have a good handle on Amy or the Doctor’s voices, and Matt Smith’s American accent is a bit rubbish.
Doctor Who: The Jade Pyramid – This one was better. Ninjas, temples, creepy guardians of said temples… yeah.
Doctor Who: The Hounds of Artemis – Interesting… but Amy felt a bit out of character, not enough Doctor, and Matt Smith didn’t do very much narrating.
Doctor Who: The Glamour Chase – Narrated by Arhtur Darvill (a.k.a. Rory Williams… whom I love and adore.) this story takes places chiefly from the perspectives of Rory and the Doctor, and Arthur just nailed the performance of both so well. And the story and mystery are rather interesting. A few holes, but interesting.
To read next week:
In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been a bit absent from the blog the last few weeks…yeah. Well, my mom and I have been working on opening a shop in our downtown historic district and it’s been a bit crazy! Our grand opening is tomorrow (or yesterday by the time this post goes up) and so I’ve been busy knitting and crocheting my fingers off to get things ready and stock our shelves. So, what have I been doing? Watching A LOT of Netflix…in the past month I’ve watched 3 seasons of Glee (don’t judge me, we all have guilty pleasures), all 8 seasons of Bones, 3 seasons of Big Bang Theory, 3 seasons of Castle, 3 seasons of Fringe, 1 season of New Girl…you get the picture. So, while I have gotten a lot of work done for our shop, I haven’t gotten a lot of reading done. I’m having some serious withdrawal! So, be prepared for a reading binge this week! My kids are going to school and mama’s got some free time!
Read this week:
So this past week, I started The Bitter Kingdom! Can I just say, I LOVE RAE CARSON! Oh my goodness, she raises the bar for fantasy writers everywhere.
To read next week:
Next week, I’m going to finish The Bitter Kingdom and read Prodigy, Sapphire Blue and Icons.
Happy Reading!
Congrats on opening a shop! That’s amazing and exciting
I am really eager to read The Bitter Kingdom–I’ve only heard positive things so far. I still need to read book 2 and the novellas. Need more time!
I’ve only watched Doctor Who…intrigued with audio and books.
My Friends Are Fiction’s Showcase Sunday
Oh, Bitter Kingdom is SO fantastic. The good thing is, as of tomorrow they’re all out, so you won’t have to wait to finish the series!
And the Doctor Who audiobooks are hit or miss, but when they’re voiced by actors from the show, it’s still pretty fun.
