There are times when Heather, Aly & I finish a book, but don’t have time to write a full, comprehensive review… or even a shorter “flashbulb” review. BUT we still want to share our thoughts with you on what we’ve been reading. That’s why every Saturday we’ll be featuring “snippet” reviews — short, sweet, to-the-point reviews that we’ll try to keep to 2-7 sentences. So we hope you enjoy these!!

Taking place between The Assassin and the Pirate Lord and The Assassin and the Desert, this novella provides an interesting view of Celaena from the perspective of Yrene, a downtrodden barmaid who’s lost her home, her family, and who is losing sight of her dreams. While not essential to the greater Throne of Glass storyline, it’s more fantastic character development for Celaena as she struggles with her new-found conscience and personal code of honor… which makes it a necessary read for me. And I’m hoping, very much hoping, that perhaps we’ll run into Yrene again at some point in the series.
Happy Reading!
So what is your stance on novellas – love them, hate them, enjoy them I’m sure. It’s definitely another method to pump money out of us. I have a love hate relationship with them. haha. I don’t always read them but the option is nice.
Overall, I love the idea of add-on/prequel novellas. Especially the Throne of Glass ones. I’m the kind of person who eats up extra content. Even though the novellas typically aren’t necessary to the overall storyline I love the extra character development and the cool, subtle connections and back stories that give me a little better understanding of the larger story and world. Yeah, it might be a marketing gimmick for the pubs to make a few extra bucks between books, but if the novellas are good then I don’t care. Good for them. It’s smart business, and it’s fun for the readers. I don’t feel like I’m being taken advantage of, because I don’t have to buy them if I don’t want to. (Or do I???) 😉 Besides, some are available in my library’s ebook project, so it all works out. And that’s my stance. LOL
