There are times when Heather, Aly & I finish a book, but don’t have time to write a full, comprehensive review… or even a shorter “flashbulb” review. BUT we still want to share our thoughts with you on what we’ve been reading. That’s why every Saturday we’ll be featuring 3 “snippet” reviews — short, sweet, to-the-point reviews that we’ll try to keep to 2-7 sentences. So we hope you enjoy these!!

David Tennant. DAVID TENNANT. The man is amazing, and he narrates this (abridged) audiobook, which is why I HAD to get it from Audible upon discovering it. As far as the story goes it’s a super fun romp through ancient Rome with some really great Rose/Ten moments… and possibly a–
Well. I really can’t say, can I?
The narration is fantastic. It’s obvious Rayner gets these characters and Tennant has all their inflections and tones down perfectly. It’s just SO MUCH FUN to hear the Doctor sound like the Doctor… or the tenth one, anyway.
P.S. – I’d like to just say that this recent infatuation with Doctor Who is all Heather’s fault. I’ve purposely avoided this show for years, convinced it was the height of utter ridiculousness and JUST. TOO. CAMPY. And while in some ways it is exactly that, the characters are just so compelling and I cannot stop watching. Like, seriously, I cannot stop watching. Help.
P.S.S. – Heather, you were right.
Blurb: Hunter Garrity just wants to be left alone. He’s learned the hard way that his unusual abilities come at a price. And he can’t seem to afford any allies. Read more…

Disclaimer: If you haven’t read the rest of the Elemental series, you may find spoilers here. I’ll do my best, but spoilers just slip through sometimes.
About a month ago, I flew through the Elemental series in about a week. The Merritt brothers seriously have me hooked, but Hunter…well, I wasn’t so sure about that kid. He’s never really picked a side and that bugs me. I mean, I get it. He’s in a really tough spot and he’s got major “daddy issues,” but trust is a huge thing with me and I wasn’t sure I could trust Hunter. So, an opportunity to get it Hunters head and see what makes him tick made me both excited and trepidatious.
Well, Brigid Kimmerer did not disappoint. I found that, though Hunter did frustrate me like crazy and Kate was infuriating at times, I couldn’t help but sympathize and grow to love them. Their story was one that needed to be told and one that surprised me greatly. The ending was so strong and different from what I expected, and I have to tip my hat to Miss Kimmerer…that took guts and I’m impressed. Thoroughly looking forward to what happens next.
Happy Reading!
I feel your pain Dani. Last year (or earlier this year?) I was finally convinced to start watching Doctor Who and I have now devoured every episode and even watched the live unveiling of the new Doctor on Sunday. I have also collected many of the books but haven’t read any yet. The Stone Rose is one of those books and now I have an urge to read it. Thanks!
Isn’t it addicting?! So addicting. I’m almost done with season three and am ridiculously in love with David Tennant. But yes, this was a fun story. Like I said, it’s an abridged version, so can’t speak to the full-length novel, but I’d be interested in knowing what you think of it when you do get a chance to read it.
And what do you think of the new Doctor? I’m intrigued.
