Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Twenty-seven-year old Anne Elliot is Austen’s most adult heroine. Eight years before the story proper begins, she is happily betrothed to a naval officer, Frederick Wentworth, but she precipitously breaks off the engagement when persuaded by her friend Lady Russell that such a match is unworthy. The breakup produces in Anne a deep and long-lasting regret. When later Wentworth returns from sea a rich and successful captain, he finds Anne’s family on the brink of financial ruin and his own sister a tenant in Kellynch Hall, the Elliot estate. All the tension of the novel revolves around one question: Will Anne and Wentworth be reunited in their love?
The worst of Bath was the number of its plain women. He did not mean to say that there were no pretty women, but the number of the plain was out of all proportion. He had frequently observed, as he walked, that one handsome face would be followed by thirty, or five-and-thirty frights; and once, as he had stood in a shop on Bond Street, he had counted eighty-seven women go by, one after another, without there being a tolerable face among them.

“A man does not recover from such a devotion of the heart to such a woman. He ought not; he does not.”

Ryan lowers his lips to my ear. “Dance with me, Beth.” “No.” I whisper the reply. I hate him and I hate myself for wanting him to touch me again…. “I dare you…” If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk’s home life, they’d send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom’s freedom and her own happiness. That’s how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn’t want her and going to a school that doesn’t understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn’t get her, but does…. Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can’t tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn’t be less interested in him. But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won’t let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all….
Nothing makes you think you might need years of therapy like having to say the word breasts in front of your mother. “Can we end this conversation?”

The truth won’t help. Hi. I took your niece out last night, got drunk, made out with her until she bolted from the barn, and I’d appreciate the opportunity to apologize to her and convince her to give me a shot.
Yeah. I see that conversation going well.

Hehe. Yes, Dare You To was fantastic. Definitely a must-read.
Two good teasers! PERSUASION: For some reason, I’ve never read this book! Gotta do that. DARE YOU TO: Sounds like it could be good. I’m especially curious about what’s going on in Beth’s home life.
My Teaser is from ORPHAN TRAIN.
You totally should read it. Persuasion is one of my favorite books ever. And Dare You To. I wasn’t sure I’d like it because of Beth…and not Isaiah…and yada yada…but it was SO SO SO SO SO good! I mean epically made of awesome. =)
I love Jane Austin, but Persuasion is my least favorite, I don’t know why.
