There are times when Heather, Aly & I finish a book, but don’t have time to write a full comprehensive review… or even a shorter “flashbulb” review. BUT we still want to share our thoughts with you on what we’ve been reading. That’s why every Saturday we’ll be featuring 3 “snippet” reviews — short, sweet, to-the-point reviews that we’ll try to keep to 2-5 sentences. So we hope you enjoy these!!
Author: Sarah Rees Brennan Title: The Summer Before I Met You Published: Sept. 5, 2012 Format: Kindle, 13 pages Website: READ HERE Source: FREE Blurb: “Take care of your spirit, Kami,” said Megumi. “And don’t burn the place down.” Kami grabbed both the suitcases and headed for the cabin she was sharing with Liz and Angela. Liz walked with her, and on their way Kami stopped. “My Sobo was exaggerating,” she said earnestly. “There have been very few fires.” Read more…
This one time at cricket camp…
So this is the skinny about what happened during Kami & Angela’s stint at cricket camp. More fun character development, more insight into Kami’s family dynamic and also her friendship with Angela… and an interesting perspective on Rusty. Suspicions confirmed? Perhaps…
Side note. loving the format of these short stories being from a new character’s/third party’s perspective. Originally, I wondered how effective that would be. And apparently the answer is, very.
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout Title: Opal Series: Lux (Book #3) Published: Dec. 11, 2012 by Entangled Teen Format: Paperback, 382 pages; ebook Website: www.jenniferarmentrout.com Source: Purchased Blurb: No one is like Daemon Black. When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well… There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on. Read more…
Honestly, I was a little disappointed with this one. But you say, “You gave it 4 stars!” Yes, yes I did. Here’s the thing. I LOVED Obsidian and Onyx. I mean, LOVED THEM. I obsessed over them. Read and re-read them. So, I think maybe my standards were too high on this one. Don’t get me wrong, it was still an incredibly enjoyable read. It still made me sigh happy sighs and hope happy hopes but it just lacked that certain zing that I’ve grown accustomed to in the Lux series. So, overall, an enjoyable read, however I didn’t feel it lived up to the full potential of what could have been.
Happy Reading!
I look forward to reading Opal. Its hard not to have high expectations when you love a series. I’ll keep your warning in mind though so I have proper frame of mind when I read it.
Thanks!
I felt the same way Heather did… it wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t JLA’s best. And I expected A LOT after Onyx, which might be unfair, but the expectations were, I think, valid because Onyx was so freaking awesome. Still, Opal was enjoyable!
I am reading Opal right now… just starting and I kind of find it hard-ish to get into it as much as I got into Onyx.
Yeah. It was a lot easier to put down than the first two… but still, I loved Daemon & Katy and the tension between the two of them kept me coming back for more.
I’m loving these little snippets! I have Obsidian, but have debated about buying the other two in the series even though I’d really like to read them. I really dislike being limited to how much I can spend on books!
Yay!
I’m glad you’re enjoying this feature! Onyx = awesome. Love it so much… but I do get the whole budget constraints thing. I don’t know if your local library has an ebook section, but you could try looking for it there? All three books are available for Kindle library loan at my library. Or maybe they’d even have it in the regular book section?
I don’t know why I haven’t searched for it there yet. Maybe it’s because I did go through all the YA stuff and it wasn’t there, but I will definitely double check. Thanks!
