So we thought we’d do a little rundown of this year on the blog…
so here are Refracted Light’s “top 5’s”, cool stats, and other various… sundries.
Blood Storm by Rhiannon Hart Everything I’ve always wanted — and everything I never knew I always wanted — in a captivatingly awesome, beautifully romantic fantasy adventure. Crown of Embers by Rae Carson Three words: Elisa & Hector. These characters are just so incredible both alone and together and though the plot is also incredibly incredible, it’s the character-driven aspect of Rae’s books that make it a favorite. Enshadowed by Kelly Creagh This book was frightening, disturbing, utterly heartbreaking, tragic… but lovely in it’s own Poe-esque way. The thing I love about Kelly and this series is the extremes to which she takes her characters and the risks she’s willing to take in her story. The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin How do I describe this book? Mind blowing. Mind bending. Addictive. Incredibly sophisticated. My absolute top, top, tippity top FAVORITE of 2012. Shadow & Bone by Leigh Bardugo Just gorgeous in scale and scenery, I love The Darkling, Alina & Mal so very much, love the Russian/Slavic influence on the world and mythology, love a complex & twisty villain, love the situations Alina gets backed into, love her growth as a character. Just a REALLY good book.
Umm…some serious shizzle went done in this book and wow…mind = blown. I was talking about that one for quite a long time! I shed so many tears in this book! Seriously overwhelmingly awesome conclusion to Meghan, Ash, and Puck’s stories. I am not one to fall in love with a contemporary typically but this novel…wow, just wow…there is so much more to it than a simple contemporary. It speaks to the reader on so many different levels. The characters have stuck with me for months. Deity & Elixir by Jennifer L. Armentrout Yes, I know these are separate, but they go together in my head, and the Covenant series rocks. Easy by Tammara Webber Rather heavy, but there’s nothing that I would change about this book because it’s so redemptive. The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin What a phenomenal read – my brain figuratively exploded too many times to count. Slammed by Colleen Hoover I reviewed this book recently, and it’s a heartwrenchingly beautiful love story. Perfectly broken. Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins Enter the source of my total obsession with angel/demon books – it all started here. . Ice Boy makes me melt a little inside. This trickster has stolen my heart 😉 He is the perfect blend of obnoxious and adorable. Very fun to read. I love his selflessness. I went from being merely obsessed with the Aiden of 2011 to full-on-stalker-mode in 2012. Attractive, mature poet? I’ll have some more, please!
Happy New Year ladies! May you have an even better 2013!!
Thank you!
You as well, O’Dell!
OMW, Dani, i LOVED Hector! Like jumped up and down and fist pumped at the end of crown of embers. And Aiden, *swoon* Did you see JLA is working on something new and she likes the guy better than any of her others?!
Ummm… yes. Hector = amazing… and I CANNOT WAIT for the third book to see how all THAT plays out.
And I did see that and BETTER than Aiden or Daemon? I *must* meet this new dude.
Excellent blogging year, ladies! I agree with Aly on Easy and Slammed–LOVED those books!
Thank you so much! Happy New Year, Jen!
