I don’t normally post just random bookish things, but for this I will make an exception.
I am SO freaking excited about Peter Jackson’s movie adaptation of The Hobbit that I can hardly stand it. It is a book that holds a very special place in my childhood and one of the foundational stories that made a lasting impact on me and has shaped my preferences as an adult reader. My dad would read The Hobbit aloud to my siblings and I as kids and I just remember being swept up into Tolkien’s beautiful and fantastic Middle Earth; my head swirling with stories about greedy dragons, powerful wizards, flesh-eating trolls, a man who could turn into a bear and bobbing down river in wine barrels. It was my first introduction to Tolkien, whom I consider the father of modern myth and fantasy, and The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings have become the standard, unfair or not, by which I measure most fantasy that I read.
Anyway, I don’t know if you’ve “liked” The Hobbit’s page on Facebook, but if you have you’ll have noticed occasional photo updates throughout the summer as they’ve released promotional photos of all of the dwarves in Bilbo’s party. So I thought I’d share a couple on here for those who might have missed them!

The fabulous Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield
Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins
He’s BACK! The amazing Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey
There are more close-up photos of the dwarves that can be found at the Facebook page, if you’re interested in that. But just these few are getting me so excited. Jackson and Co. did such a good job with the LotR trilogy (Yes, even though he cut out Tom Bombadil) and I can’t wait to see his vision of The Hobbit come to life on screen as well!
Happy Reading…er…viewing?
Dani
